Winners of GOT MILK? Home Video Commercial Contest Selected
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 15, 2001 ) The California Milk Processor Board (CMPB), creators of the acclaimed GOT MILK? campaign, today announced the Grand Prize and two Finalist winners of the "GOT MILK? Home Video Commercial Contest" for teens. The contest, which began in November, invited California teens (13-18) to produce their very own GOT MILK? home video commercials expressing the campaign's familiar theme of milk deprivation. The winning entries were selected from hundreds of weird and wonderful submissions from around the state.
"Teens because they are very blunt about what's funny and what's not," says Jeff Manning, executive director of the CMPB. Manning, attributed with building the tagline into a nationally licensed brand, admits teens are among the campaign's biggest fans and toughest critics. "Teens love GOT MILK? because we don't try to cram milk down their throats," adds Manning.
The Grand Prize Entry, "Udder Letdown," is a hilarious spoof of a teen house party. The video depicts a group of teens huddled around a keg of milk, taking turns chugging the white stuff and downing "milk shots." In the climactic scene, the keg of milk runs dry, the music halts, and the teens leave the party to the visibly stricken expression of the hosts. The familiar "GOT MILK?" slate ends the spot. The video was produced by Holly LaChapelle, Kristie Gruhl and Erin Schallhom of Scripps High School in San Diego.
"The whole point of this video was to show kids having a good time without any alcohol," says Kristie Gruhl, Grand Prize winner.
The Grand Prize winners will receive a video-camcorder and the opportunity to stream their home video commercial on the GOT MILK? website (www.gotmilk.com). The two Finalists will be awarded a trip to the next GOT MILK? ad shoot plus GOT MILK? merchandise. In addition, all the winners will receive $200 savings bonds for college.
