Vinfolio Releases the 22nd Annual Wine Price File, the most comprehensive source of wine auction prices for determining a wine’s current value

Wine

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 24, 2006 ) San Francisco -– Vinfolio announced today the release of the 22nd edition of the Wine Price File (WPF), the most extensive compilation of wine auction prices. The auction data is also available online through VinCellar(TM), Vinfolio’s online cellar management software.

The new edition provides pricing data from 563 auctions that occurred between January 1998 and June 2006. Data includes over 263,000 individual lot prices and 80,000 summary listings with high/low/average pricing. The listings include various bottle sizes and vintages from 1727 to 2005. The current edition adds results from 54 wine sales across the United States and Europe representing 34,000 new prices from the last six months. Auction sources include Acker Merrall & Condit, Bonhams, Bonhams & Butterfields, Christie’s, Edward Roberts International, Hart Davis Hart, Morell and Company, Sotheby’s, and Zachys Wine Auctions.

“We are pleased to release this expanded version of the Wine Price File,” says Stephen Bachmann, CEO of Vinfolio, “The ongoing, timely release of comprehensive auction data is why the Wine Price File is the standard reference for wine auction pricing for collectors and industry experts alike.”

As expected, the three most popular vintages were 2000, 1996 and 1990 and the most frequently sold producers included the Bordeaux First Growths, Petrus, Cheval Blanc, Yquem, Lynch Bages, and Harlan. Although in tenth place in frequency of sale, Harlan was the most frequently sold magnum (1.5L). A 750ml bottle of an 1811 Yquem fetched $42,504, the highest price for that bottle size, while a 3L of 1947 Cheval Blanc sold for $135,125, the highest price for a large format bottle.

Copies of the Wine Price File can be purchased for $49.95 plus shipping and handling from Vinfolio at www.wineprices.com or by calling 800-969-1961.
