Upside Magazine Names Fairchild Semiconductor CEO Kirk Pond to its "Elite 100"

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 11, 2002 ) Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS) on January 10 announced that Kirk Pond, president, CEO and chairman of the board, has been honored by Upside magazine in the December 2001/January 2002 issue as one of its "Elite 100." The "Elite 100" members are a select group proclaimed by Upside as the most powerful and influential U.S. business leaders in technology, finance, business and industry.

The "Elite 100" members work in fields including communications, biotechnology, semiconductors, the Internet, manufacturing, venture capital, investment banking and government.

Pond joins other industry luminaries such as Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer; Louis Gerstner Jr., chairman and CEO of IBM; Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO of Sun MicroSystems; Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell Computer; Stephen Case, chairman of AOL Time Warner; John Chambers, president and CEO of Cisco Systems; Bernard Ebbers, president and CEO of WorldCom; Jorma Ollila, chairman and CEO of Nokia; and Michael Armstrong, chairman and CEO of AT&T.

Pond is a true industry veteran and visionary. He has successfully navigated seven electronics boom-and-bust cycles in his 30-plus year career. As one of the longest-tenured and most respected leaders in the semiconductor field, Pond has consistently broken the mold. In 1997 he led the industry's first management led leveraged buy-out (LBO), establishing Fairchild Semiconductor as an independent company and developing the new multi-market semiconductor business model - moves that many industry pundits said could not succeed.

In its first three years, Fairchild tripled its revenues. Its growth rate has consistently outpaced the industry, and the company continues to gain market share. Today, Fairchild is the leading global supplier of high performance broadbased power components critical to managing, distributing and conditioning power in today's electronics. Fairchild components enable the electronics in all major end market applications including computing, communications, consumer goods, industrial, automotive and aerospace.

Since re-establishing Fairchild Semiconductor, Pond has relentlessly pursued his vision, completing seven acquisitions, bringing more than 2,000 new products to market through focused R&D efforts and serving more than 50,000 customers worldwide.

Pond's background includes numerous management positions for Texas Instruments, Timex Corporation and National Semiconductor. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Electrical Engineering and from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School with an MBA. In addition to his duties as president and CEO of Fairchild, Pond serves as chairman of the company's Board of Directors.

Upside is a leading monthly business and finance magazine dedicated to insider views and in-depth analysis of the business of technology - the individuals, market trends and venture investments driving advanced technology.
