UTMB Extends Contract with Embella for Compliance Tracking Technology

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 05, 2002 ) Austin, Texas — Embella announced today the renewal of its contract with The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The contract involves Embella’s universal management platform for tracking and documenting compliance data and custom e-learning development services. “We’re excited about the validation and the support we’ve received from UTMB’s Compliance Department in refining our tracking platform to fit the needs of complex hospital compliance programs,” states David E. Warner, CEO of Embella. “The regulatory burden facing America’s hospitals is extraordinary; each new guideline requires more paperwork and procedural adaptation.” added Warner. According to a recent report Patients or Paperwork?, commissioned by the American Hospital Association, there have been almost 100 new or revised requirements issued by federal agencies since 1997 (2002, American Hospital Association). “Implementing just one regulation can cause a ripple effect, requiring operational changes in processes throughout the hospital. These changes require additional training, revised policies and procedures, and the establishment of accurate, auditable compliance documentation,” added Warner.

Embella’s DisEMinate™ platform is distributing training and other compliance content to over 15,000 UTMB employees, faculty and affiliates. Since April of this year, there have been over 6,000 users, department heads and managers who have accessed the system seeking real-time reports documenting compliance activities. “The role of compliance in a large teaching hospital has evolved over the years. Today, compliance departments are, not only, challenged with ensuring that the right people receive the right information — at the right time — to keep up with state and federal regulations; but, there must also be an accurate audit trail of those activities,” stated Terry Reeves, Executive Director of Compliance for Clinical Affairs at UTMB. “Embella offers a comprehensive solution of tracking technology, course development services, and the ability to integrate with our Human Resource Management System for continuously updated workforce data and real-time reports,” added Reeves.

Embella’s technology manages and monitors access, controls the integrity of transmitted data through encryption, and provides an audit trail of user activities. Embella offers a vendor-neutral environment that delivers secure enterprise-class file transfer in a confidential, reliable manner over internal or public networks. Embella’s contract extension accommodates the second phase of compliance e-learning development and system usage.
