Tishman Construction Serves Pro Bono as Construction Manager for ABC-TV's "Challenge America With Erin Brockovich" Quest to Rebuild Lower Manhattan Park

Builder of World Trade Center Donating Construction Management Services for Rehabilitation of Park, Amphitheater, and Soccer Field, Dedicated to Children Who Lost Parents in September 11th Attacks

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 15, 2001 ) Tishman Construction Corporation (TCC) is serving pro bono as Construction Manager (CM) for the rebuilding of a dilapidated park, amphitheatre, and soccer field on Lower Manhattan's East River-- the first project of ABC-TV's new "Challenge America with Erin Brockovich" program.

On December 10, during the broadcast of ABC-TV's "Good Morning America", New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani issued a challenge to Ms. Brockovich, the legal champion and inspiration for the Academy-award-winning film that bears her name, to spearhead--in only six days--the complete rehabilitation of the park, an amphitheatre and soccer field, and to host at the Park on December 16th, a star-studded holiday celebration for the thousands of children who lost parents as a result of the September 11th terrorist attacks on New York City.

Ms. Brockovich accepted the challenge and immediately began recruiting the talent and materials of various corporations and organizations that could help her complete the task. The program, "Challenge America with Erin Brockovitch: The Miracle in Manhattan" will be broadcast on Friday, December 21, from 10 to 11 p.m., on the ABC Television Network.

Tishman Among the First to Donate Services, Manpower, and Materials

Tishman Construction Corporation's President, Daniel R. Tishman, was among the first to volunteer his firm's construction management services, manpower, and materials to the cause. The Tishman project team will be on-site 24 hours a day for six days, to complete the project estimated to cost $2 million to $3 million-a job that would normally take one year if not fast-tracked. Tishman's contribution of time and materials is valued at $500,000.

Two of Tishman's chief superintendents who worked on the construction of the World Trade Center--Elio Cettina and Frank Bovasso--are contributing their time to Ms. Brockovich's project. When completed, the park will be a permanent new venue in New York City for recreation and public performances under the aegis of the City of New York, Department of Parks & Recreation.

"Since our company is historically and emotionally tied to the World Trade Center, we could not be more gratified to be doing something tangible to allow the families of the 9-11 attacks to have a pleasant day during this holiday season, and to be giving a park back to the people of New York," said Dan Tishman. Mr. Tishman's father, John L. Tishman, Chairman and CEO of Tishman Realty & Construction, Co., Inc., led the construction management efforts for the building of the World Trade Center 30 years ago. "The park's setting on the East River is spectacular," Mr. Tishman added, "and we are honored to be called upon to restore this public property for all New Yorkers."
