Telephonics Demonstrates Homeland Defense Technology
Ground Surveillance Radar Protects Borders and High Value Targets From Unauthorized Entry and Terrorism
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 15, 2001 ) FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation (NYSE: GFF), this week demonstrated its advanced Ground Surveillance Radar (GSR) to Congressman Steve Israel (D - 2nd District, NY), and representatives from US Senator Chuck Schumer's and US Senator Hillary Clinton's offices at an undisclosed location on Long Island, NY.
Bringing real-time field reconnaissance to a new level of performance and capability, the company demonstrated many of the unique features of their state-of-the-art, lightweight, low power, perimeter protection sensor system. The company also demonstrated the user-friendly nature of this equipment and stressed the low level of training required to quickly deploy and effectively operate the system
"It is critical that our government continues to deploy the most advanced technology in our fight against terrorism," stated Congressman Israel, a member of the Democratic Task Force on Homeland Security. "I am glad to see Long Island defense firms like Telephonics leading the way in developing these advanced technologies."
Deployable in less than 5 minutes, the GSR is ideally suited for establishing portable, fixed or highly mobile surveillance operations in highly sensitive areas and around high value potential targets in adverse weather conditions, day or night - guaranteeing that critical intelligence data is gathered, processed, and disseminated quickly, easily and reliably. In addition to its' primary border surveillance mission, the Ground Surveillance Radar addresses the needs of multiple homeland defense initiatives including protection of water reservoirs, nuclear and conventional power plants, airport facilities, bridges, and missile test ranges.
"I look forward to working with Telephonics and other defense contractors on Long Island as Congress seeks ways to improve our homeland security," said Israel.
