TBS Superstation Revs Up for Laughs with Addition of THE DREW CAREY SHOW and SEINFELD

Ultra-Popular Comedies Form Foundation of TBS Superstation's New Non-Stop Comedy Block, Kicking Off Tuesday, Oct. 1

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 19, 2002 ) TBS Superstation, basic cable's #1 network among key adult demos, is taking aim at the funny bone with the addition of two ultra-popular sitcoms, the irreverent THE DREW CAREY SHOW and what has been called the greatest sitcom of all time, SEINFELD.

They join blockbuster sitcom Friends and recent addition Home Improvement to form TBS Superstation's Non-Stop Comedy Block, four hours of television's best and brightest, kicking off Tuesday, Oct. 1.

THE DREW CAREY SHOW joins the Superstation line-up on Monday, Sept. 9, at 4:30 p.m. (ET)/1:30 p.m. (PT) and 6 p.m. (ET)/3 p.m. (PT). SEINFELD then completes the Non-Stop Comedy Block when it moves in Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. (ET)/3:30 p.m. (PT) and 7:30 p.m. (ET)/4:30 p.m. (PT).

"We are thrilled and proud to be welcoming these phenomenally popular series to the Superstation," said Dennis Quinn, executive vice president and general manager for the network. "This marks a new era for the Superstation, as we build what is certain to be one of the most attractive comedy blocks ever, attractive to both the coveted young adult audience and the advertisers that want to reach them."

The following is a complete rundown of the complete Non-Stop Comedy Block, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 1:

4 p.m. Roseanne
4:30 p.m. THE DREW CAREY SHOW
5 p.m. Home Improvement
5:30 p.m. Home Improvement
6 p.m. THE DREW CAREY SHOW
6:30 p.m. SEINFELD
7 p.m. Friends
7:30 p.m. SEINFELD

SEINFELD, the self-professed "show about nothing," is one of the highest-rated and most critically acclaimed comedy series of all time. It features Jerry Seinfeld playing himself, a stand-up comedian, who shares various adventures and misadventures with his three pals: Elaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus; George, played by Jason Alexander; and Kramer, played by Michael Richards.

SEINFELD earned numerous awards during its long network run on NBC, including Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series (1993), Outstanding Supporting Actor (Richards in 1993, '94 and '97) and Outstanding Supporting Actress (Louis-Dreyfus in 1996); Golden Globe Awards for Best Comedy Series (1994), Best Actor (Seinfeld in 1994) and Best Supporting Actress (Louis-Dreyfus in 1994); and People's Choice Awards for Favorite Television Comedy Series (1997 and 1998). It continued to dominate the ratings through its highly publicized final episode on May 14, 1998.

SEINFELD was created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David and produced by Castle Rock Entertainment and West-Shapiro.

THE DREW CAREY SHOW, which debuted on ABC in 1995, features Carey as a wannabe upwardly mobile Clevelandite working as an assistant personnel manager at a major department store. As he struggles to stay financially and romantically afloat, he is supported by his three best friends, Kate (Christa Miller), Oswald (Diedrich Bader) and Lewis (Ryan Stiles). On the other side of the coin is Carey's arch nemesis, sharp-tongued, outlandishly dressed coworker Mimi (Kathy Kinney), who fires a volley of practical jokes back and forth with Carey.

THE DREW CAREY SHOW is produced by Mohawk Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television. It was created by Drew Carey and Bruce Helford, with Helford serving as executive producer.

TBS Superstation, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s flagship entertainment network, is basic cable's #1 network among key adult demos and cable's most-watched network, a position it has held for 25 consecutive years. Reaching 87 million households, the Superstation offers viewers a wide mix of programming, including action-packed original movies, groundbreaking original series, hosted movie franchises, world broadcast premieres, popular sitcoms, Atlanta Braves baseball and NCAA college fooball.
