After scoping out kids' clothes on sale in her town, M-Commerce lets Laura search merchandise at other area stores and make the purchase with her MasterCard over the cell phone. In minutes, the transaction is complete. And in the near future, it will be even easier. Her cell phone and her MasterCard will be fully integrated. "The MasterCard payment account information is stored in a chip, on the card," said Elizabeth Morey, Vice President, MasterCard. "When you go to make your payment, you will be prompted to insert your card into the phone. You will then authenticate yourself with a 4 digit pin number that in turn will trigger the payment." MasterCard is also developing a wireless remote wallet-that can be activated to make purchases with the cell phone. For consumers, M-Commerce provides more security. "Mobile commerce will eliminate paper, which will in turn eliminate credit card receipts," said Ed Guntin of Motorola. "Communication with a mobile phone will be encrypted, thereby preventing monitoring of the airwaves." Because of its convenience and high level of security, technology experts predict M-Commerce will be the wave of the future.
