Sendmail, Inc. Receives 2001 Computerworld Honors 21st Century Achievement Award

(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 06, 2001 ) Emeryville, Calif. - Sendmail, Inc., a leading provider of Internet messaging, received a coveted 21st-Century Achievement Award last night from the Computerworld Honors Program for its visionary use of information technology in the category of business and related services. Morgan Stanley nominated Sendmail, Inc. in recognition of its pioneering
contributions to the global information-technology revolution and its positive impact on society.

"Winners of the Computerworld Honors 21st-Century Achievement Awards represent those organizations whose use of information technology has been especially noteworthy for the originality of its conception, the breadth of its vision, and the significance of its benefit to society," said Patrick J. McGovern, chairman of the Computerworld Honors Program Chairmen's Committee. "We're proud to honor Sendmail, Inc. as one of our outstanding winners."

From more than 500 nominations submitted, 53 finalists were chosen to attend last night's gala in Washington, D.C. Ten of the finalists were then announced winners of the prestigious award.

"When I created sendmail 20 years ago, I was trying to solve a basic problem - allowing people to exchange email across multiple networks," said Eric Allman, CTO, Sendmail, Inc. "Little did I know that sendmail technology would one day fundamentally change the way the world communicates and become one of the key building blocks of the Internet."

Dave Anderson, CEO, Sendmail, Inc. remarked, "To receive this award, while being added to the permanent research collection at the Smithsonian, is a great honor and recognizes our technical and business innovation in delivering open source software and commercial products together to the advantage of the Internet and all of its participants."

About the Computerworld Honors Program
The Computerworld Honors Program was created in 1988, when chairmen of the 100 leading IT companies saw the need to identify and celebrate the people making the most significant achievements in the use of IT for the benefit of
mankind. These leaders agreed to work together to ensure that heroic individuals who were using IT to benefit society were remembered and that their innovative efforts were collected and preserved. The Computerworld Honors collections now encompass nearly 4,000 case studies submitted by laureates on six continents. The program annually provides copies of these
case studies, along with oral histories, video biographies and other primary source materials on the history of IT to more than 150 museums, libraries, universities and research institutions worldwide.

A case study about Sendmail, Inc., together with information about other winners and laureates in the 2001 Collection, will become part of the permanent research collections at more than 150 libraries and research institutions worldwide, which together constitute the Computerworld Honors International Archives and Academic Council. The information will also be
available on the Computerworld Honors Program Archives On-Line, www.cwheroes.org.
