(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 26, 2002 ) Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the industry leading TFT LCD manufacturer, on October 25 announced a 46-inch TFT LCD panel. The new 46-inch panel sets another milestone in the development of advanced TFT LCD technology.

The introduction of large size, high resolution and high performance TFT LCD panels greatly broadens the application market for these sophisticated flat panel solutions. Samsung's 46-inch TFT LCD panels features true motion picture quality with a short response time of 12ms, a 1280 by 720 high resolution, and a wide 16:9 aspect ratio that suits the key requirements for high definition TVs.

Samsung has also applied its proprietary Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) technology to achieve a 170 degree-viewing angle in all directions. The true color saturation is 72% against the NTSC standard and the contrast ratio is 800:1.

Samsung demonstrated the 46-inch sample at the ground-breaking ceremony for the TFT LCD Module Line at Suzhou, China.

The first 46-inch TFT LCD sample was incubated in Samsung's fifth generation line in Chonan, Korea. The 1100 x 1250mm substrate facility, operated since September 2002, can fit two 46-inches panels on each substrate. Mass production of the 46-inch panel is expected to take place in the first half of 2003.

The new panel will be available at international exhibitions. Samsung plans to display the new 46-inch TFT LCD panel at LCD/PDP International 2002, one of the most prestigious flat panel display exhibition, held in Yokohama Japan, October 30 - November 1.
