Revolutionary Aluminum Body Jaguar Makes North American Debut

The newest version of Jaguar's flagship car -- the 2004 Jaguar XJ sedan -- is stronger, faster and safer than previous model because of its lightweight aluminum construction. The revolutionary new body uses an industry-first rivet-bonded 'monocoque' body assembled like an airplane. That construction makes the body 60 percent stiffer than a regular steel-bodied car! Drivers will be safer in crashes and have an agile handling car. The body also makes the car 40 percent lighter than steel, meaning a safer car since it will carry less kinetic energy into a collision and a lighter car uses less fuel.
The body isn't the only thing that makes the new XJ the most technologically advanced Jaguar ever. As an option, it also features JaguarVoice, which allows the driver to control the telephone, navigation systems, audio equipment and climate control with their voice. And, for the first time in a car, the voice system can even be used by rear seat passengers!
The new XJ -- the seventh generation of the model -- is also longer, taller and wider than before. It offers more headroom, legroom, shoulder room and rear-seat knee room as well as a bigger trunk and glovebox. The new XJ is due in showrooms late spring.
