Reciprocal Securely Transmits Critical Documents and Medical Records Utilizing Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services
New service will provide trusted delivery of mission-critical information with digital encryption and Microsoft RMS Technology
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 16, 2003 ) CLEVELAND -- Reciprocal®, (www.reciprocal.com) a world leader in enterprise rights management consulting and solutions, announced today a new service for businesses and professionals to securely transmit electronic documents and data. Scheduled to launch this fall, Reciprocal Certified Delivery is an affordable and convenient service for healthcare, financial institutions and legal enterprises to protect and audit the transmission of important and sensitive documents and information. Reciprocal® is a wholly owned subsidiary of OverDrive®, Inc., a leading digital content solutions provider.
Built upon the world-class Rights Management Clearinghouse developed and operated by Reciprocal and Microsoft® Windows® Rights Management Services (RMS) for Windows Server 2003, Certified Delivery enables a sender to establish rights and permissions as to the “Who, How & When” others may access digital information or documents. Electronic messages, word processing documents, images, medical records, electronic forms, and other digital files can be “protected” using Rights Management Services to restrict access only to pre-authorized individuals even after delivery.
“Certified Delivery is a Windows Rights Management Service built upon Microsoft’s Windows Server 2003 platform to improve the protection and management of critical business documents and information," said Steve Potash, CEO of Reciprocal. "The secure and verifiable transmission of electronic medical records, legal documents, and confidential information will aid compliance with new regulations for the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive patient and client reports and documents. In addition to the protections provided by the encrypted packaging of information, Certified Delivery provides verification and receipt of delivery and easy administration to audit the status of mission-critical transmissions of information,” he added.
"Customers have told us that they have information inside their enterprises that they want to stay there — or at least to be shared only in the way intended,” said John Manferdelli, general manager of Windows Security at Microsoft Corp. “Building solutions that help facilitate that principle in a flexible way for authors and recipients will add real value to the management of information inside companies.”
OverDrive, Inc. launched its Reciprocal subsidiary following its purchase of the assets of the former Reciprocal from Microsoft Corporation. The purchase included the acquisition of licenses for Digital Rights Management intellectual property, equipment, trademarks, technical expertise, and strong brand name recognition in the digital rights marketplace. Prior to the OverDrive acquisition, nearly $100 million was invested in the former Reciprocal by Microsoft and several high-profile venture capitalists.
