Qualcomm Receives U.S. Secretary of Labor's Opportunity Award
Prestigious Award recognizes company's commitment to diversity and community
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 18, 2002 ) Diversity has long been a difficult struggle for many companies. However, wireless communications giant, Qualcomm, has bucked the trend - and has been cited as a model company for equal employment opportunity by the U.S. Department of Labor .
The Labor Department awarded Qualcomm Incorporated the 2002 Opportunity Award for its ongoing commitment to equal employment opportunity, including its commitment to addressing current and future employment issues, and for its corporate social responsibility efforts.
The Secretary's Opportunity Award was initiated in 1988 by the Labor Department's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) to honor one Federal contractor each year that has established and instituted comprehensive workforce strategies to ensure equal employment opportunities for minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, disabled veterans and Vietnam era veterans. It is one of the most desired equal opportunity awards instituted by the OFCCP.
A key part of Qualcomm's business is its philosophy of global inclusion by raising the consciousness about how diversity can positively impact all aspects of business. This philosophy shows in the company's diverse workforce and customer base, the various charities that have benefitted from its corporate giving and its encouragement of volunteerism by employees.
