ProsoftTraining.com CIW Program Surpasses 20,000 Certifications

Leading Internet Certification Continues Rapid Growth

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 03, 2001 ) Austin, Texas, – ProsoftTraining.com (Nasdaq: POSO) today announced that the number of CIW certifications earned has surpassed 20,000. The number of certifications earned has doubled since Prosoft announced that CIW had surpassed 10,000 certifications seven months ago.

The rapidly growing CIW certification is the largest Internet job role certification, the third largest vendor-neutral IT certification and one of the seven of the largest IT certification programs. CIW has been recognized by leading colleges, corporations and learning centers and is supported by more than 1,000 CIW Authorized Training Provider (CIW ATP) sites in 56 countries.

Mrs. Shawn Windle, a Master CIW Designer, from Redmond, Washington earned the 20,000th CIW certificate. Windle and her husband started their own Web marketing company that profiles transportation carriers to streamline the hiring process for shippers. After outsourcing the Web site and database development to two separate companies, Windle and her husband realized that it would be much more effective if she could bring the work in-house and maintain the company’s Web site and database on her own.

Because Windle did not have any IT skills, she reviewed training programs and certifications that cover Web design. Windle decided on the Master CIW Designer certification and attended CIW training courses at Bellevue Community College, a CIW Authorized Training Provider (CIW ATP). Learn more about Bellevue Community College programs at www.bcc.ctc.edu.

Windle says that the knowledge she gained through her CIW training enables her to maintain her company’s Web site and database, without the assistance of outside IT consultants. She can also communicate more effectively with other IT professionals, which enables her to run her business better, she adds. Also, she mentions that the vendor-neutral aspect of the CIW program exposes her to a variety of leading technologies, from which she can select those most suitable for her projects. “I am so pleased with the nature of the CIW curriculum that I plan to begin the Master CIW Administrator track very soon.”

“I feel that the CIW program gave me a great understanding of what is required to build and maintain a Web site, from start to finish,” Windle adds. “Had I learned about the Master CIW Designer track earlier, I would have developed my company’s site and database on my own, and saved a lot of time, money and frustration.”

With the 20,000th certification being earned, CIW has passed another milestone. An IDC white paper, “Benefits and Productivity Gains Realized through IT Certification,” extolled the benefits of certification. In discussing IT certifications such as CIW, the report found that increased productivity, greater loyalty and higher morale are benefits of certified employees. Training for the CIW certification is available in a variety of formats that cater to many different learning styles. CIW-authorized preparatory materials are available in classroom, elearning, Web-based, computer-based and selfstudy formats through the CIW Authorized Training Provider (CIW ATP) network. The increasing importance of job role certifications and the Internet as a driving force of the knowledge economy largely explain the success of CIW. Vendor certifications that demonstrate competency in one vendor technology have already proven their benefits to employers and employees alike. Today’s open technology environment has created a need for new certifications such as CIW that reach across vendor technologies and focus on IT skills necessary for 21st-century jobs.

“Certifications such as those from Microsoft, Cisco and Novell have already demonstrated that the broader the market acceptance of a certification, the more valuable the certification is those who have earned it,” said Jerry Baird, chairman and CEO of ProsoftTraining.com. “As one of the big 7 IT certification programs, CIW complements the other leading programs and fills the need for a master-level certification based on Internet job skills.”
