ProsoftTraining.com Adds Self-Study Option for CIW Candidates

49% of IT Certification Candidates Prefer Self-Study Method for Exam Preparation

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 14, 2001 ) Austin, Texas – ProsoftTraining.com (Nasdaq: POSO) today announced the immediate availability of Official CIW Self-Study products. These products will extend the reach of vendor-neutral Internet certification to learners who require the flexibility and lower cost of self-study.

The Official CIW (Certified Internet Webmaster) Self-Study Suites are a complete solution for candidates pursuing CIW Associate, Master CIW Designer or Master CIW Administrator certification. Each complete self-study suite includes a set of self-study manuals and enhancement tools, such as exam study guides, an interactive CD‑ROM, digital videos, simulations and practice test questions.

Concurrent with the release of the Official Self-Study Suites, Prosoft will offer the CIW Self-Study Series for Foundations, Site Designer, E-Commerce Professional, Server Administrator, Internetworking Professional and Security Professional courses. These self-study aids have been designed for candidates needing self-study material for a particular job role.

Another Prosoft offering, the Official CIW Exam Study Bundles for CIW Associate, Master CIW Designer or Master CIW Administrator, are exam study aids that can be used to supplement classroom, distance or e-learning courses. Each bundle includes an exam preparation guide along with an interactive CD‑ROM, digital videos, simulations and practice test questions. Exam Study Bundles are available only through CIW Authorized Training Providers (CIW ATPs).

“The majority of candidates for mature certification programs such as MCSE and A prepare for exams using self-study methods,” said Jerry Baird, chairman and CEO of ProsoftTraining.com. “As the CIW program has grown to one of the top information technology certifications, so has the demand for comprehensive self-study products. Today’s announcement of the Official CIW self-study solution responds to that demand and extends accessibility of CIW to a whole new set of candidates.”

Self-study materials are recommended for those who do not have the time or resources to attend traditional classroom training. According to the 2000 Training and Certification Study conducted by the Gartner Group on behalf of Prometric and other sponsors, 49% of certification candidates prefer printed self-study materials. According to the Gartner Group, candidates choose self-study because it is their preferred learning style or because of cost or time constraints.

Among the proponents of self-study learning are “Boot-camp”-style preparation programs that combine printed self-study materials with classroom instruction. In addition, many professors prefer the “textbook feel” of self-study materials when teaching CIW in an academic setting.

“The introduction of a self-study program was the final step to ensure availability of Official CIW preparation materials for all types of learners,” said Julie Rowe, vice president of products and programs of ProsoftTraining.com. “The CIW program now has a fully developed program with more than 1,000 CIW ATPs, with more than 15,000 certificates issued. Our goal is that CIW effectively serve the employment requirements of the emerging knowledge economy by filling the estimated one million IT job vacancies with qualified Internet, Web and e‑business professionals.”

Official CIW curriculum, designed specifically for use in the classroom with hands-on exercises, remains available only through the CIW ATP channel and is delivered by CIW Certified Instructors (CIs).
