The largest Native American owned casino and resort in California opens to the public on June 24. Perini Building Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Perini Corporation (AMEX:PCR).

Tony Meyer, Perini's project manager, credits teamwork, a proactive owner and an outstanding group of subcontractors for delivering the project in record time. The 989,179 sq. ft. hotel/casino, conference center and performing arts theater, was originally scheduled to open in early fall.

"Partnering and utilizing input gleaned from key players proved to be a tremendous asset on this job," stated Meyer. In addition to weekly meetings, Perini traditionally schedules one formal partnering session facilitated by an outside consulting firm. "The team approach established in the initial session provided beneficial insight on ways to control costs and improve the schedule." In fact, due to the success of the first session, subsequent mini sessions were added to the agenda.

The partnering sessions provided an avenue for everyone involved in the project an opportunity to lay ideas, concerns, and solutions on the table. By aggressively implementing many of the scenarios presented, in addition to continually evaluating opportunities to get in front of the schedule, Perini shaved a quarter of a year off the 22-month project.

Pechanga Resort and Casino is located on the Temecula Reservation and is owned by the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians. According to Mark Mills of the architectural firm Delawie, Wilkes, Rodrigues, Barker, "Pechanga is a first class act. The resort and casino reflect the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright's `Prairie' design blending the facility and landscaping with the surrounding environment. The resort has all of the amenities of a Las Vegas Casino, with the elegance of a luxury resort."

Included in the construction of the hotel/casino and conference center are a 1,200-seat performing arts theater, retail space, an intimate show lounge, bingo hall, seven restaurants, a pool deck on the roof of the conference space, along with an attached 13-story, 522-room guest hotel, capped off by a roof top lounge.
