Openservice Introduces Security Threat Manager™ Delivering All-In-One Real-Time Security Correlation Solution
Integrated security management suite dramatically simplifies real-time threat management for firewalls, anti-virus and intrusion detection systems (IDS)
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 10, 2002 ) OpenService™, Inc. (Open), the leader in network security management software, today introduced Security Threat Manager™ to provide organizations with an integrated, easy-to-use network security management solution that enables real-time detection and correlation of blended, high risk network attacks. The suite meets the industry's demand for single-vendor threat management solutions to identify the most important threats buried within the data deluge produced by anti-virus, intrusion detection systems (IDS) and firewalls. Security Threat Manager™ ships with pre-defined real-time correlation models, reducing false positive alerts while simultaneously escalating the most serious threats that require immediate attention. Open is also shipping new, integrated Web-based forensic reporting and analysis features suitable for both CSOs and security response teams as part of the solution.
Mitchell Hryckowian, director of engineering at Interliant, a managed security service provider, is familiar with the challenges of managing large-scale deployments of security systems. "In order to meet our clients' needs it is important for us to understand and prioritize threats in real time," said Hryckowian, who has been successfully using Open's SystemWatch product since 2000 and is now implementing Security Threat Manager. "It is critical for us to have a single solution that provides complete network security, as quickly as possible, and can scale to manage the number of devices we have deployed. Using Security Threat Manager's correlation capabilities enables us to manage our growing security infrastructure and protect our clients efficiently and effectively."
Security Threat Manager is the industry's most scalable security event management solution, employing a highly distributed architecture that enables the system to handle millions of events per day. It adds pre-defined correlation models that run on an embedded version of Open's NerveCenter 3.8 correlation server. These models not only correlate threats in real time, but also enrich them with user-defined categories, custom weightings, and links to vulnerability and risk databases. The models also store threat data in the suite's embedded Sybase database for later forensic analysis. Users can easily update and manage the correlation engine using a new Web-based user interface, making the solution simple to use and maintain.
Helping to deliver industry-defining performance and scalability to the suite is the SystemWatch agent, which has been extended for the suite with new normalization capabilities. SystemWatch agents detect patterns of potential security threats on security devices, automatically execute pre-programmed defensive actions, and manage system and process performance to ensure that security applications and appliances are running properly. SystemWatch is the only security management agent certified by Nokia (NYSE: NOK) to run on their range of enterprise security appliances.
"The ability to correlate and evaluate the thousands of security events generated by firewalls, anti-virus and IDS technologies is one of the major security management challenges facing the enterprise today," said Mark Nicolett, vice president and research director for Gartner. "Organizations need to evaluate security threats and possible impacts in real time, to determine which events need to be acted on - and which will have little impact."
Added Ted Joseph, president and CEO for Open, "By bringing our technologies together and extending them in Security Threat Manager™, we have created the most scalable, full-function real-time security threat management solution available. It's easy to use, integrates with all major security products, and has the widest platform support in the industry today. Enterprises are now understanding the need to manage their threat data streams from firewalls, IDS and anti-virus solutions, and Security Threat Manager™ enables them to analyze these events, prioritize their responses and protect themselves in real time without having to expand their security staff."
Pricing and Availability
Security Threat Manager will be available in January 2003. Typical enterprise-wide deployments will cost $150,000 to $400,000 depending on the number of devices monitored and correlation servers installed.
About Open
