Oakley Announces New Releases For Expanding Line Of Wristwatches
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 02, 2002 ) Oakley, Inc. (NYSE: OO) today announced the release of three additions to its expanding line of premium wristwatches. The new products will extend the limits of an innovative design technology perfected by the company for earlier releases, and will also introduce the company's first analog chronograph.
"This refined extension of our original Crush™ series, fused with a mad science mentality toward timepiece design, has resulted in the creation of our first chronograph - the Detonator™," said Oakley President Colin Baden.
All three new models take advantage of Oakley 4-D™, a new design language that combines separate three-dimensional ideas into a single unified geometry. The new wristwatches also utilize proprietary Oakley architecture in the form of a high strength 3-D internal frame. The structure maintains the continuity of sculpted surfaces while conforming the timepiece to the shape of the wrist. This innovation allows Oakley to combine the durability of lightweight metals with the comfort of advanced Unobtainium®, a specially formulated synthetic that increases grip with perspiration to maintain comfort and fit.
The new Oakley Detonator™ wristwatch is the company's first analog chronograph. Its seven-hand display is driven by high-precision quartz movement. Shielded by an impact-forged stainless steel case, the timepiece measures 1/5-second intervals and shows elapsed time, split time, accumulated time and dual competitor time. Built for human logic, Oakley Detonator™ refines the tedious and complicated procedure of alarm setting to a simple, intuitive operation. The instrument includes a mineral glass crystal with anti-reflective coating, a date display and a three-year battery. Like Detonator™, Oakley's new Crush™ 2.0 and Crush™ 2.5 wristwatches are the product of CAD/CAM engineering and liquid laser prototyping. The company utilized high-precision Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machining to achieve definitive levels of performance engineering. The technology allowed Oakley to include enhancements such as double-locking crown seals on all three wristwatches - part of a high-pressure endurance design rated at 10-bar water resistance, equivalent to 100 meters / 330 feet.
Crush™ 2.0 and Crush™ 2.5 each include a date display, a mineral glass crystal with anti-reflective coating and a five-year battery. Their analog displays are driven by high precision one-jewel quartz movement. Crush™ 2.0 is shielded by a case of impact-forged stainless steel. Crush™ 2.5 adds optional honed and hand-polished finishes to the stainless steel casing. The case back, crown and buckle of both wristwatches are also rendered in durable stainless steel.
The suggested retail price of the new Oakley Detonator™ wristwatch is US$395. For the watch face, Oakley plans to release models in four separate color finishes: Blue Chrome, Red Chrome, Silver and Black. The company's new Crush™ 2.0 wristwatch has a suggested retail price of US$275. Planned options for the watch face are Black, White, Blue Chrome, Sunburst Silver and Red Chrome. The suggested retail price of the new Oakley Crush™ 2.5 wristwatch is US$275. Optional hues for the watch face are slated to include Black, White, Mother of Pearl Powder Blue, and Mother of Pearl Pink, with selected case finishes and band colors.
These new inventions are part of Oakley's growing array of timepiece offerings that include Time Bomb™, Icon™ and Icon™ Small - a line of wristwatches with Inertial Generator™ technology to convert human motion into raw electricity - and the Oakley D1™, D.5™, D2™ and D3™ digital sports watches featuring proprietary software engines with tools for sports pros, as well as the biggest and brightest displays in the world of digital timekeeping.
