(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 23, 2001 ) -- A centuries old port city in Northern Europe, Stockholm, Sweden is home to the famed Nobel Foundation. Honored in areas of chemistry, physics, medicine, literature, peace, and economics, the Laureates are being recognized in a new museum and traveling exhibition whose opening was attended by the King and Queen of Sweden. "This centennial exhibition of the Nobel Prize will certainly light the fire among youngsters," says King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden. It is the hope of its creators that the Nobel Museum will become a center of education for both Sweden and visitors from around the world. "The ideal visitor here is the 16 year old high school kid who takes no interest in science and we hope that we should bring him or her here, and since we discuss the general concept of creativity and we show there are similarities between authors, scientists, and peace activists, we think that we will be able to make them realize that science too is of interest," says Svante Lindqvist, Nobel Museum director. The museum is located in the center of a Stockholm area called "Old Town" and was founded to encourage others to follow in the steps of those whose work is featured here. The museum's first exhibition was supported in part by several major corporations. "It very much represents the values that we support in innovation, in culture, and creative thinking," says Anders Bergendahl of Merrill Lynch. Alfred Nobel had no idea his awards would become so well known.
