(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 26, 2005 ) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Federal Communications Commission today extended the deadline for VoIP Providers to secure E-911 acknowledgements from their subscribers to September 28, 2005.

The FCC says that Providers should disconnect a customer’s regular Internet phone service (but could still allow emergency calls to be made) if the customer has still not responded by the new deadline.

The new ruling is a result of a VoIP industry lobby to the Commission this past week in which they argued that disconnecting people from their phone service could cause further problems to customers who would then have no phone service at all and would be unable to make a 911 call.
