New Appointment at Cadw: Welsh Historic Monuments
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 07, 2001 ) Cardiff, Wales
Frank Olding has been appointed Assistant Inspector, Ancient Monuments, by Cadw: Welsh Historic Monuments, the National Assembly for Wales agency responsible for Wales’s built heritage.
Frank, who joins Cadw from Abergavenny Museum, where he was curator for eleven years, will initially inspect prehistoric sites such as stone circles and burial mounds, as part of Cadw’s programme to increase protection for field monuments throughout Wales.
There are currently about 3,500 such scheduled monuments in Wales, and Cadw has set itself the target of increasing the number of scheduled monuments by over 100 every year. Frank’s work will form part of Cadw’s on-going inspection programme.
After studying Archaeology and Welsh at Cardiff University, Frank worked for the Wales Tourist Board at its Cwm Carn visitor centre before joining Monmouthshire County Council as Assistant Heritage and Tourism Officer.
Frank, who is married and lives in Abergavenny, explains, “Wales is a treasure-trove of archaeological wonders, some already scheduled and others waiting to be discovered. I’m looking forward enormously to working with our partners in examining such sites across Wales and scheduling a number of new, nationally important historical monuments.”
Ends
For further information contact Hannah Thomas, Cadw Information Officer, on 029 2082 6178, or Rhodri Ellis Owen or Catrin Hughes at Cambrensis PR on 029 2025 7075.
