National Association of Elementary School Principals' New Hotline for Parents & Their Kids
(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 03, 2002 ) SUGGESTED ANCHOR LEAD: School is a time of learning, growing and many questions, and not just for kids. From Sunday, April 7th-Tuesday, April 9th, parents can call 1-800-944-1601, a special toll-free hotline, for answers about children and education. Jane Lueders has this report.
SCRIPT: Imagine being able to pick up a phone and talk to an expert about ways to help your child manage homework, or deal with a bully, tell if your child is ready for school, or needs special testing. On April 7th, 8th and 9th, anyone with questions like these can do just that by calling 1-800-944-1601, a toll-free hotline sponsored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Ohio principal, Paul Young, is the association's president-elect.
CUT: Hundreds of principals and school psychologists are ready to take calls on our hotline. Parents who are curious, troubled, or simply need some reassurance can speak confidentially -- and anonymously -- in English or in Spanish. They can also reach the hotline through our website, www.naesp.org.
SCRIPT: Callers can ask about reading problems, school discipline, special education policies, school safety, kindergarten entrance and learning difficulties.
CUT: The goal of the hotline is to provide useful advice and also to encourage parents to get in touch -- and stay in touch -- with their schools. They may also request a free copy of our brochures, which address many of the most commonly asked questions.
SCRIPT: The hotline will be open on Sunday, April 7th from 2-8 p.m. Eastern Time; on Monday, April 8th from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Eastern Time; and on Tuesday, April 9th from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Eastern Time. Calls will be taken in Spanish, as well as in English. In Washington, this is Jane Lueders reporting.
SUGGESTED ANCHOR TAG: The National Association of Elementary School Principals has more than 28,000 members in the U.S., Canada and overseas. To learn more, go to www.naesp.org.
