NEW Donates $25,000 to International Center to Heal Our Children
Donation to support program that helps children affected by 9-11 attacks.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 20, 2002 ) NEW Customer Service Companies, Inc. ( NEW), the nation's leading provider of extended service contracts and buyer protection programs, has announced a donation through its charitable foundation, The NEW Relief Fund, Inc., of $25,000 to the International Center to Heal Our Children, a program created by Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Founded in November 2001, the International Center to Heal Our Children (IHOC) was created in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Its goal is to help foster, promote and maintain the emotional health of children who are traumatized psychologically due to acts of terrorism, violence, and disasters. The IHOC is led by Dr. Paramjit Joshi, a world-renowned expert on the subject of the effects of war and disasters on children.
"Immediately after the September 11 attacks, NEW's employees donated a significant amount of money, which was matched with a corporate contribution. We all wanted to find a way to contribute to the relief efforts and we created our charitable foundation to facilitate those efforts," said Fred Schaufeld, Chairman and CEO of NEW. "Since that time, we have met with many different relief organizations to determine where our contributions can make the greatest impact on those people who were affected by the attacks. After talking with Dr. Joshi and others at the International Center to Heal Our Children, we immediately recognized the value of their efforts. We are proud to make this donation to an organization that is making such a difference in the lives of children who have suffered as a result of the terrorist attacks" added Mr. Schaufeld.
"We are very grateful to NEW and its employees for this generous contribution" said Dr. Paramjit Joshi, Executive Director of the International Center to Heal Our Children. "The IHOC is committed to providing support to parents, teachers, healthcare professionals and others who work with our children to help them cope with the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. The images from that day, coupled with the ensuing anthrax outbreak, have left many children scared and at risk of developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Our efforts at the IHOC will empower adults to intervene and help minimize those risks. This contribution from NEW will help provide the financial support necessary to achieve that goal" noted Dr. Joshi.
