Move Over JK Rowling!
European Best-Selling Author Cornelia Funke Hits the US and the New York Times Best-Sellers List
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 23, 2002 ) Just when you thought the Harry Potter phenomenon was over, along comes one of Europe's best-selling children's authors, Cornelia Funke, and her fantastical fiction novel, "The Thief Lord."
Matt Kelly interviews best selling European author Cornelia Funke. The interview runs :59.
SCRIPT (Kelly): Book notes, I'm Matt Kelly. Best-selling children's author, Cornelia Funke has written over 40 books. Her novels have been nominated for several prestigious prizes and she is the # 3 children's author in Europe behind JK Rowling. Her newest novel is "The Thief Lord." It tells the story of two orphans who encounter a mysterious 13 year-old boy called the "Thief Lord" who leads them into fantastic, spellbinding adventures.
CUT (Funke): It's about a gang of homeless kids who live in Venice in an abandoned movie theatre and they have this mysterious leader who calls himself Thief Lord. It's a little bit fantasy but most of it is quite realistic. My stories are liked both by adults and children so I always try to write the stories in a way adults and kids, both have fun.
SCRIPT (Kelly): Move over Harry Potter. "The Thief Lord," made its US debut 14 weeks ago and is already # 4 on the New York Times Best Sellers list for children's authors. I'm Matt Kelly reporting.
