(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 07, 2006 ) Mountain View, CA – The Mountain View Alliance (MVA), a consortium of open specification development organizations today announced a new member – the Communications Platforms Trade Association (CP-TA.) This brings the MVA membership to seven organizations representing more than 500 companies ranging from carriers to component vendors. CP-TA was formed to accelerate adoption of SIG-governed, open specification-based communications platforms through interoperability certification.

“Industry collaboration is critical for driving a mainstream market for open industry standards-based communications platforms,” said Shlomo Pri-Tal, CP-TA Chairman. “The Mountain View Alliance members include almost all of the key organizations that we are working with and our participation is a great forum to promote our message of interoperability.”

“Platform interoperability is the ultimate goal for all MVA members,” said Jon Kenton, Service Availability Forum Representative for the MVA. “CP-TA’s laser focus on in-the-box interoperability will be a key addition to the MVA’s marketing and education activities.”

With industry collaboration, the CP-TA is driving a mainstream market for standards-based communications platforms by certifying interoperable building blocks. CP-TA members are developing a test procedure manual and test suites that define objective and verifiable interoperability criteria such as thermal, system management and Carrier grade OS. Both will be developed for hardware and software building blocks based on existing open industry standards from organizations such as MVA members PICMG and the Service Availability Forum, and to the system-level profiles developed by SCOPE. The Mountain View Alliance promotes an environment for coexistence and compatibility among specification organizations so that real applications can be created from commercial off the shelf (COTS) building blocks. The group is making significant progress in harmonizing marketing messages and activities as well as facilitating communications among member organizations. The group’s founding members have been holding regular meetings since December 2004.
