Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission Develops New Community Brand
Putting Imagination To Work...ORLANDO
(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 15, 2002 ) The Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission Inc. (EDC) recently developed a new community brand as part of an international marketing campaign to enhance the perception of Metro Orlando as a center of technology and innovation. The new brand was developed to establish a high tech image and, ultimately, result in more technology companies locating in the four-county region of Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola. The brand consists of a new logo and tagline, which is Putting Imagination to Work...Orlando. "We know this region is uniquely situated to take advantage of growth in the high tech sector," stated EDC President and CEO Ray Gilley. "Currently, Central Florida technology companies represent $8.8 billion in sales and 80,000 employees with an annual payroll of $4.5 billion." Business Week recognized the Orlando region as one of the fastest growing high tech centers in the country. The region includes high tech companies such as Lucent Technologies, Lockheed Martin, SGI, Siemens, HTE and Schwartz Electro-Optics. "It is important for the tourism and high tech industries to work together to embrace a shared marketing philosophy," stated Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau President Bill Peeper. "Currently, tourism is a $20.9 billion industry. Imagine how wonderful our region would be with two $20 billion industries." Founded in 1977, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC) serves the City of Orlando and Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties. It is the largest private, not-for-profit, regional economic development organization in Florida. The mission of the EDC is to initiate business investment, lead the economic development efforts of the four-county region and market Orlando as the world's premier business destination.
