Marcus Hotels and Resorts Names Upchurch Vice-President of Operations

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 21, 2001 ) MILWAUKEE, Wis.— Marcus Hotels and Resorts, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that it has named Paul Upchurch as vice-president of operations. In his new position, Upchurch will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of eight properties in the company’s hotel and resort portfolio, including the newly developed Hilton-Madison/Monona Terrace in Madison, Wis., opening Feb 26, and the Hotel Phillips currently being restored and slated to open in Kansas City, Mo., in fall 2001.

“A 21-year hospitality veteran, Upchurch’s in-depth experience in a number of increasingly important hotel operating positions gives us added bench strength as we begin to aggressively expand our management contract business, ” said William J. Otto, Marcus Hotels and Resorts senior vice-president and chief operating officer. “His hands-on knowledge of the industry will play an important role as we expand nationwide.”

Prior to joining Marcus Hotels, Upchurch served as vice president of operations of the Oakbrook Hotel Corporation, a Chicago-based hotel ownership and management group. His hotel industry experience includes senior positions with Adam’s Mark Hotel and Resorts, Fairmont Hotels, Amway Grand Plaza and Sheraton Hotels.

In addition to operations management, Upchurch’s background includes refurbishment and repositioning of major hotels and a broad background in human resources. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan.
Marcus Hotels and Resorts operates 10 hotels and/or resorts in Illinois, Wisconsin, California, Minnesota and Missouri. The division specializes in the management, repositioning and development of first-class, full-service branded and independent hotels and resorts.
