(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 11, 2006 ) Greenville, MI -- A knife collection 20 years in the making will hit the auction block on Saturday, September, 16, making history in the community of Greenville, Michigan, according to Tim Tobey of Merritt Auctions, Inc.

“Local collector Jack Kurnat has collected for over 20 years,” said Tobey. “He has some amazing pocket knives and Zippo lighters, many rare pieces - over 560 lots - and all in mint condition!” He added that the Kurnat collection also includes many unique pieces, “Highlights of the sales are a Frank Buster fightin’ rooster prototype, original Black Jack prototypes made in Effingham, Ill., Case Classic prototypes, salesman samples and parts knives where only a few were made.”

The auction will be conducted at Montcalm County Fairgrounds in Greenville, but avid knife collectors around the world will have the opportunity to pick up some treasures thanks to the internet. “Those people who cannot attend the sale in person will be given the opportunity to bid from the comfort of their own home,” explained Tobey. “All they have to do is register online and view the catalog. They can bid before and during the live auction.”

This auction marks the first time Merritt Auctions has performed a live auction with live internet bidding. Merritt Auctions has partnered with Proxibid.com to bring this knife auction to the world. Proxibid gives auction companies like Merritt Auctions the ability to broadcast their sales over the internet in real-time to their customers who cannot attend the auction, and to reach new customers worldwide.
