@Last Software Announces SketchUp's Sectioning Tool
tting edge technology allows 3D models to be sliced for drawing, viewing, presentation and export to CAD programs
(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 23, 2002 ) Fulfilling a commitment to their clients, @Last Software on August 21 announced the release of SketchUp 2.1 featuring a section-cutting tool. This sixth release of the award winning 3D design software, allows users to cut a section through their model in real-time to generate and export 2D plans, sections and elevations of their 3D model to their favorite CAD program.
"Sectioning has been described as the single most important feature we could have added to SketchUp," explains @Last's CEO Brad Schell. "First, it allows the user to slice the model and work inside for drawing, viewing and presentation purposes. This is a tremendous advantage for design professionals who are adding on to an existing structure. Secondly, the user can take a cross section of a model and export the section information directly to a CAD program or to templates for cutaway illustrations."
"User response has been fantastic, as a large portion of design professionals love sketching by hand but find using CAD programs cumbersome or frustrating. They appreciate SketchUp's simple approach and now they can model in SketchUp and easily generate scaled, measurable and CAD-ready plan and section drawings. They can quickly create a model and slice it too!"
SketchUp 2.1 features:
Fast DWG/ DXF import and export
Unique interface with a short learning curve
TourGuide™ Technology - Create 3D animations
Self-casting, mathematically accurate, location sensitive shadows
Profile and Extension lines for rendering a "sketched" look
Compatibility with direct-input tools - pens and tablets
Color and material application
Drag and drop scanned backgrounds
Scaling and grouping tools
Built-in PDF Integration (Mac)
Availability and Pricing
SketchUp 2.1 is available for Windows and Mac OS X -- $495. Windows version is available in Swedish, Japanese, German and French.
