Lashley Advanced Bi-Rail Systems, inc. (LABIS) Offers Commuters a Quiet, High Speed Alternative to Present Day Trains

Instead of propping up Amtrak with another massive funding package, Congress should give serious consideration to new high speed transportation concepts like the LABIS bi-rail which can whisk ...

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 24, 2002 ) An environmentally friendly transportation solution has been designed that is not just a recycle of past failures. It is the LABIS train, 50 to 75% less expensive to build than existing or proposed consumer rail projects. Its projected break even cost of approximately 17 cents per passenger mile is 40% less than automobile, 50% less than existing rail, and up to 200% less than air. A serious bipartisan government and industry focus can put this system in place before our air and ground transportation systems are in complete gridlock.

The airlines and rail systems should no longer oppose revolutionary transportation projects out of territorial protectionism. If current projections hold true, we will be a nation of air and highway gridlock with no viable alternative if something is not decided now. According to the 1999 Edition of The Statistical Abstract of the United States the cost of traffic congestion in major cities is staggering: Los Angeles, $11 billion per year; New York City, $10 billion per year; Chicago, $4 billion per year; San Francisco, $3 billion per year. The cost for these five cities alone is an astounding $32 billion per year in lost dollars. Add to this mix the astronomical cost of present day government subsidies ($35 billion per year) for ground and air transportation. Do we need relief? Yes.

Enter the LABIS train, a wide-bodied, light vehicle that is designed to run above surface hazards on elevated rails at speeds of two hundred miles per hour or more. Its unique design allows it to pick up and drop passengers along the way without stopping by using a system of shuttle cars to transport passengers between boarding areas and the moving train.

The LABIS train uses the light, strong monocoque techniques employed in the manufacturing of modern aircraft. The cars will be wide enough for six to eight abreast seating, plus aisles with room enough for efficient passenger movement. Wheels are mounted on the sides enabling lower floors and a lower center of gravity. Rather than being high and narrow the vehicle will be low and wide, greatly enhancing lateral stability and safety. LABIS is powered by electricity delivered through power distribution rails on the guideway. Alternative options call for power generation on board the trains.

America's current transportation crisis demands that every viable concept receive a thorough and objective evaluation, including those proposed by inventors with no power base and no army of lobbyists clamoring for favor. Inventors like Ray Lashley need to be heard. Additional information is available at www.labistrains.com
