(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 24, 2005 ) Lifestyle Designer and children's activist KATHY IRELAND launched a new campaign to promote reading excellence and improved scholastic scores among American youngsters. The NATIONAL FAMILY READING NIGHT program launched at a gala book signing for 400 New York kids at the famed 5th Avenue FAO Schwartz store to kick off the holiday season with a theme of "give your children better reading skills for Christmas and for their lives."

The event also debuted the sale of three new Story Reader books she authored ("What Do Mommies Do?," "Mona's Favorite Words" and "An Angel Called Hope") with record sales of over 450 copies. It is Kathy's belief and hope in establishing National Family Reading Night that all families will be inspired to designate one night a week to the practice and kids and parents reading together, a development top educators assure will dramatically improve children's ability to read and to succeed both scholastically and in life.

Kathy’s initial goal is to attract a million American families to pioneer the practice this holiday season and then to spread the word of the positive results and get parents to sign on to weekly Family Reading Nights. Her new books when placed in a plastic "story reader" and the kids turn a page; Kathy's voice reads the words with them.

An amount equal to all of Kathy’s proceeds from the books from Launch through 2006 will be donated to non-profits that battle illiteracy. “What Kathy has done for this program is amazing.
