(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 07, 2007 ) Tucson, AZ – Over 700 jewelry industry vendors and retailers attended the annual Jewelers For Children auction, held on January 30 at the Centurion Jewelry Show at the Westin La Paloma Resort.

Auctioneer Mike Jones, President of United Country Auction Services of Kansas City, conducted the charity auction which raised well over $200,000, nearly tripling the amount raised at last year’s event, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish, Casa National and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.

Comedian Kathy Griffin served as the evening’s entertainment. Griffin, who is well known for her four-year television stint with Brooke Shields on “Suddenly Susan,” has moved on to star in her own reality television show “My Life On The D List” which airs on the Bravo cable network. A film crew from Los Angeles filmed the event for an upcoming episode.

Griffin mixed it up on stage with Jones while working the crowd and interviewing patrons who pledged $5,000 during a challenge from a retailer who commented how lucky and blessed he was to be a jeweler. Once the jeweler presented his check for $5,000 he challenged other tables to match it. Before the live auction even got started over $150,000 had been raised.

Even Griffin got in the spirit by writing a check for $10,000 and presenting it to Jones on stage during the pledge drive. This year’s total will be added to the $25 million plus that the Jewelers For Children Foundation has already donated in the past.
