(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 16, 2006 ) Memphis, Tenn. Memphis-based Roebuck Auctions has experienced substantial business growth since it began giving seminars two years ago, company officials said.

“The multi-billion dollar auction industry continues to grow exponentially,” said John Roebuck, founder of Roebuck Auctions.

According to figures complied by the National Auctioneers Association, the value of residential real estate sold at auction in 2005 is $13.1 billion dollars. With the inclusion of commercial and industrial, agricultural, and vacant land sales, 2005 gross sales profits are estimated at $48 billion.

“We believed that if we began educating people about the many advantages of selling and buying real estate at auction, it would make them more inclined to sell their property at auction, or at least to attend an auction,” said Roebuck.

Roebuck, a past president of the National Auctioneers Association, said most recently the company has conducted a series of seminars in its satellite office in Destin, Fla., although the programs are held regularly in the Memphis headquarters. He said he may hold the seminars in other cities if the market demands it.

“We’ve had fantastic attendance at these Florida seminars,” he said. “Adding the Realtors sessions has been a real bonus.”

While the seminars were originally targeted toward buyers and sellers, Roebuck said a few months ago, he decided to hold sessions for the benefit of Realtors.

“There’s a misconception that if a Realtor’s client buys property at an auction, they won’t earn a commission,” he said. “It’s really as simple as following a certain procedure, as is true with any business.”
