Historic Olds Sisters’ Home Sells at Public Auction
The Olds Foundation was formed in 1993 by sisters Hazel Olds-Richardson, Cleda and Eutha Olds
(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 11, 2006 ) Amity, Arkansas -- The home of the late Olds Sisters, former owners of the Bank of Amity and cofounders of the charitable Olds Foundation, was auctioned April 8, 2006. According to auction records, Dr. Phillip Buck and his wife, Mary, both of Glenwood, Arkansas, placed the winning bid on the historic home. The Auction was conducted by Nick Fowler of Fowler Auctioneers, Inc. in Glenwood and its broker, Lake Hamilton Realty of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Two vacant lots also belonging to the Olds Sisters adjacent to the home were auctioned as well, with Dr. Chester Clark, Mayor and resident of Amity, Arkansas, placing the winning bid.
The Olds Foundation was formed in 1993 by sisters Hazel Olds-Richardson, Cleda and Eutha Olds, and gained attention by offering numerous educational, medical, and municipal grants, primarily in the Amity and central Arkansas area. Ownership of the home transferred to the Olds Foundation after the passing of the longest surviving Olds Sister, Hazel, who died in 2004.
Before the Auction, Millard Aud, Chairman of the Board of the Olds Foundation and its General Manager, said "The home and other assets of the Olds Sisters will benefit Amity and the surrounding areas for the foreseeable future." After closing the deal on the home and property, Mr. Aud added "We were very pleased with the outcome of the Auction."
Nick Fowler, Lead Auctioneer at Fowler Auctioneers, Inc. stated that "the home properties brought more than we had expected. It was a great day for us as an auction company, and hopefully this will help carry on the memory of the Olds Sisters by providing the Olds Foundation with more resources for aiding many different communities."
