Geppi's Entertainment Museum sets Sept. 8 grand-opening date

17,000-square-foot museum at Camden Yards showcases 230 years of pop culture

(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 15, 2006 ) BALTIMORE – It’s official – America’s premier pop culture museum, Geppi’s Entertainment Museum at Camden Yards, will open its doors to the public on Friday, Sept. 8. The 17,000-square-foot attraction located in Baltimore’s historic Camden Station features colorful, chronologically arranged displays that explore 230 years of American life. From rare toys and antique advertising to comic books, movie posters and animation cels, the museum’s visually stunning collection includes rare artifacts that have never before been displayed under one roof. Many of the articles have come from the world-famous private collection of museum founder and Diamond Comic Distributors President and CEO Stephen A. Geppi, but other antique and vintage items also have been loaned to the museum by private individuals who do not ordinarily share their collections publicly.

Originally to have launched over the July 4 holiday weekend, the museum will now open on the Friday after Labor Day based on a decision made by Steve Geppi himself. “When we realized that so many collector-oriented events would be taking place in and around Baltimore at that time, we felt we should push back the opening to allow visitors to the city to take part in and enjoy the grand-opening festivities,” he said. The events to which Mr. Geppi refers include the comic book collector convention Baltimore Comic-Con and a series of antiques and collectibles auctions to be conducted by Hake’s, Morphy Auctions and Geppi’s Memorabilia Road Show.

An unprecedented undertaking, Geppi’s Entertainment Museum at Camden Yards has already captured the attention of major tour operators. According to the museum’s executive director, Wendy Kelman, 12 groups have booked pre-opening tours of Baltimore’s newest and most talked-about attraction, with more expected to follow. Additional information about the museum’s opening will appear online soon at www.geppismuseum.com.
