Fiberlink Teams With Network ICE, First in Market to Integrate Enterprise Remote Access Security Solution
(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 07, 2001 ) Fiberlink and Network ICE Corp. have joined forces to stop hacker threats on virtual private network (VPN) connections. The two companies have developed the first managed security solution that combines a personal firewall, intrusion detection and policy enforcement system into a single platform. Fiberlink estimates a total cost of ownership savings of $400,000.00 over three years for enterprises. Fiberlink's fully managed solution requires no customer-owned server hardware, software, or additional IT security resources. It will integrate Network ICE's BlackICE Agents with the Fiberlink Global Remote dialer to inspect all traffic going into or out of a remotely connected notebook or PC, and actively manage the connection to the Internet to detect suspicious or hostile activity. It will prevent outsiders from compromising the system, installing Trojans or hijacking VPN sessions. BlackICE technology delivers high-performance intrusion protection that detects, identifies and blocks attacks in real time - without user interaction. "The biggest challenge facing IT managers today is ensuring that workers who use the Internet to connect to the corporate network do not create a 'back door' via the IP VPN connection through which a hacker can enter," said Matthew Kovar, director of Security Solutions & Services at Yankee Group. "Fiberlink and Network ICE are offering IT managers a service that eliminates the security vulnerabilities inherent in unsupervised remote employees." "We've incorporated Network ICE's technology into our VPNterpriseSM platform to detect and protect our customers against hackers in real time," said Skip Taylor, vice president of product marketing of Fiberlink. "This partnership marks the industry's first application of what we call 'proactive and intelligent VPNs'. Our solution will protect corporate data by preventing intrusions from hackers and enforcing corporate security policy which mandates the use of personal firewalls." Through the integration of BlackICE Agents, Fiberlink's VPNterpriseSM platform will enforce corporate security policy between the Fiberlink Dialer and BlackICE Agent. This new management capability will enable enterprise customers to automatically disconnect users who do not have a BlackICE Agent properly installed and running. Network ICE provides the protection to keep network resources safe and available regardless of points of access. BlackICE agents are designed to interoperate with all major VPN applications including Nortel and Cisco. Using the ICEcap management application, BlackICE Agents can be centrally customized, configured and deployed for corporate remote users no matter where they are. "Fiberlink's VPNterpriseSM platform complements ICEpac's suite of services by adding security policy functionality," said Greg Gillion, chief executive officer of Network ICE. "This partnership represents an expansion of our services to protect enterprises assets."
