Digital Video, Broadband Internet Access Check In at 27,000 Park Place Resort Rooms
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 17, 2001 ) Savvy guests already know that Park Place casino resorts are best places to stay and play. Beginning next year, resort visitors will have a new reason to make Park Place properties their preferred destination for fun - on-demand, digital entertainment and high-speed Internet access in thousands of Park Place hotel rooms. Park Place announced today that it has contracted with Cox Business Services Hospitality Network (CBSHN) to install digital video and audio connections, and 1.5 Mbps data ports in 27,000 guest rooms at 18 Caesars, Bally's, Grand Casinos, Flamingo and Hilton casino resorts in Nevada, New Jersey, Indiana and Mississippi. The project will begin in January and continue through the third quarter of 2003. CBSHN will invest about $30 million to upgrade resort cabling and in-room television sets. Cox and Park Place will share revenue from the new on-demand music and video services and high-speed Internet access. "Park Place customers are the big winners," said Chief Operating Officer Wallace R. Barr. "Our digital upgrade will deliver more movies, more music and lightning fast Internet access, so that Park Place can continue to offer our guests a premium entertainment experience even after they've returned to their rooms. Our business and convention customers will especially appreciate the high-speed Internet connections." The new Park Place digital offering will provide guests full Internet access by connecting their laptops to high-speed data ports. If a guest doesn't have a laptop, they'll still be able to check e-mail and surf the net using the TV monitor and an in-room wireless keyboard. "Moving to a digital platform will enable us to continue to offer new entertainment products to our guests," said Park Place Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Robert Conover. "This project is part of our overall effort to make Park Place an industry leader on the technology front." Park Place properties participating in the digital upgrade are Caesars Palace Las Vegas, Bally's Las Vegas, Paris Las Vegas, the Flamingo Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Hilton, the Flamingo Laughlin, Caesars Tahoe, the Reno Hilton, Caesars Indiana, Caesars Atlantic City, Bally's Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Hilton, Claridge Atlantic City, Grand Casino Tunica, Sheraton Tunica, Bally's Tunica, Grand Casino Biloxi and Grand Casino Gulfport.
