Denali Launches Semiconductor Memory Research Service

New service supports semiconductor memory selection for system level design efforts

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 26, 2002 ) Denali Software, Inc., the leader in memory system design and verification, on March 25 formally launched the Denali Research Service. Denali Research Service provides system developers with a customer-specific solution for reducing the technical and market risks of developing memory systems for advanced networking equipment, wireless communications devices, and computers.

System designers have never faced such a wide array of memory choices offering vastly improved system performance.

"With an abundance of new initiatives underway in the memory marketplace, many cross currents and important issues have emerged, in addition to product's technical description that a designer sees on a datasheet," said Kevin Silver, Denali's vice president of marketing. "The Denali Research Service provides technical and market analysis of the semiconductor memory market including: component price information and forecasting, memory technology roadmaps, market trend analysis, vendor profiles, market dynamics, and supply assurance strategies."

"Memory system development now requires an understanding of the larger business context, beyond the technology issues," said Denali Memory Market Analyst Lane Mason. "This need is reinforced by uncertainties in vendor and product roadmaps, as the diverse memory demands of consumer and communications applications begin to displace the well-understood PC- and computer-centric memory trends of earlier decades."

Body of Work Comprises Research Service

Headed up by veteran memory market researcher Lane Mason, Denali Research Service is a complete body of work consisting of five elements. One element is onsite customer-specific presentations delivered by Research Service staff. A second is web-based market updates. A third is phone and e-mail access to Research Service staff. A fourth is on-line resources through the Denali web portal www.ememory.com. Finally, the service provides customers a monthly newsletter entitled Denali Memory Report. Each is described below.

Onsite Presentations

Twice annually, customers schedule a Denali Research Service analyst to deliver an onsite presentation, customized to topics of their choice. The first half of this semi-custom presentation is focused on general memory topics such as market events, industry trends, price outlooks, and vendor activity. The second half of the presentation is devoted to special topics specified in prior discussion with the customer. Through a secure interface to eMemory.com, customers can schedule the onsite presentations and specify topics of interest and any special requests for the presentation. This semi-custom presentation provides customers with a comprehensive look at the memory market, while providing significant detail for the topics of interest.

Web-based Market Updates

Each quarter, the Denali research team produces a special market update providing a broad industry account. Examples of market update issues include topics such as: "new DRAM architectures (ADT, DDR2, FC RAM, RLDRAM)", "high-speed SRAM's (QDR-SRAM, SigmaRAM)", and "Flash market forecast". The market updates are delivered as web-based presentations and allow for live customer interaction as well as private chat-style messaging.

Market Analyst Access

The Denali analyst team is lead by Lane Mason, an industry veteran with over 20 years experience in the semiconductor memory industry. Industry experience, combined with aggressive interaction with memory vendors and memory system developers, gives Denali the ability to deliver the most leading edge and unbiased information available. Direct contact with Denali analysts is encouraged for discussions, special "small-scope" inquiries, and one-on-one assistance with design-chain management and product development strategies.

Online Resources

As part of the Denali Research Services, clients are provided with secure access to Denali Research Service information through www.eMemory.com. The client area on eMemory.com contains industry reports, market data, news links, and access to all publications and information available as part of the service.

Denali Memory Report

Monthly, the research group inside of Denali produces a 12-page newsletter that contains trends and analysis of selected aspects of the semiconductor memory market. The publication features an interview with a memory expert describing future directions for a particular category of memory or company. The publication is filled with articles on the latest developments in the proliferating variety of new DRAMs: DDR, QDR, FC RAM, RL DRAM as well as esoteric memory like eDRAM from IBM. It covers the continuing struggle by pseudo static RAMs (PSRAMs) and embedded memory to displace the more expensive ubiquitous SRAM. Flash is not left out either. The journal chronicles the competition between NAND and NOR flash devices as well as the end market trends affecting this potential high growth class of memory product.

Price and Availability

The Denali Research Service is offered at an annual subscription cost of $20K per year, availability is immediate. For more details, contact Kevin Silver at (512) 454-7004, Ext. 230 or via email at kevin@denalisoft.com.
