Daily Newspaper Editor Joins PR Services Firm
eNR Services Hires Local Journalist to Head Its New Editorial Services Department
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 16, 2004 ) Norwalk, Conn. -- eNR Services, Inc., a public relations services firm in Norwalk, Conn., recently welcomed Tom Connors to its staff as the Director of Editorial Services. Connors' appointment marks the first hire in a newly launched department for the firm. Connors, a veteran journalist, comes to eNR from The Hour, a daily in Norwalk, Conn., where he worked as the newspaper's business editor.
In his new role, Connors will develop and lead an in- house press release writing staff to service the firm's more than 60 eNR Grassroots PR accounts. While doing so, he will manage eNR's current base of freelance writers. His responsibilities also include measuring the hit rate of outgoing press releases through eNR's measurement tools. Currently, Connors is working on several of eNR's Grassroots PR(tm) accounts including the Chrysler Group and Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
With Connors' appointment, eNR furthers its commitment to create and deliver local news for its clients. "Bringing onboard an experienced journalist will further elevate our clients' success rate with their local media. After all, who knows local news better than a local reporter?" explained Jon Victor, chief executive officer of eNR. "We're especially fortunate that Tom was the business editor for his newspaper. His experience will give each of our clients an insider's view on what local media considers news."
eNR had been hunting for reporters from numerous local newspapers. The executives met Connors when he contacted them to write a business profile on eNR. "I never expected a simple news gathering interview would actually turn into a job interview," Connors said. "But once I started talking with Jon and the staff at eNR, I realized what an exciting opportunity it was and wanted to be a part of its future success."
Connors was a staff writer and editor with The Hour for three years, where he covered news from the city of Stamford and the local business beat, including the arrival of Diageo to Norwalk. Among his long list of news articles, Connors reported locally on the Michael Skakel trial, an internationally covered criminal trial that took place in Norwalk two years ago.
Before becoming a journalist, Connors was a high school business teacher in McLean, Va., where he was also a baseball coach. He also spent five years in corporate sales and marketing, including his time leading marketing and product development for Common Ground Clothing, a company he co-founded.
A graduate of Villanova University, Connors has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He will graduate from Quinnipiac University this year with a Master's in Journalism.
A Connecticut native, Connors attended New Fairfield High School in New Fairfield, Conn. He is currently a resident of Newtown, Conn., where he lives with his wife and seven-month-old daughter.
