The conference was the first time in the 57 years of the NAA's existence that an executive officer of the National Association of Realtors was in attendance to promote and discuss the auction method of marketing real estate. Dr.Abal and Mrs. Evans were motivated by the comments made by President-elect Patricia Vredevoogd. Ms. Vredevoogd has been a Realtor since 1971 in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she is a Broker/Owner of ASJ Realty, a residential real estate company. She was a Michigan State Realtor of the year in 2002 and served as chair of the NAR's Political Action Committee.

Dr. Abal was selected by the National Auctioneers Association to monitor discussion and educational programs dealing with multitrack land auctions and a session dealing with Internet techniques and strategies for the auctioning of real property.
