Cape Clear Announces Full Support for Microsoft Visual Studio.NET with New Release of CapeConnect
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 04, 2002 ) CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Cape Clear(tm) Software, a leading provider of Web Services technology, has announced full support for Microsoft Visual Studio.NET in the latest release of its CapeConnect(tm) Web Services platform. CapeConnect 3.5 extends Cape Clear's existing support by including native interoperability with the latest release candidate for Microsoft .NET framework and Microsoft VisualStudio.NET. CapeConnect 3.5 is currently available as a Beta release, with a full commercial release expected by the end of February 2002. CapeConnect 3.5 also adds significant new functionality, including support for databases over SOAP, enhanced UDDI functionality, and additional support for complex legacy applications.
"The J2EE versus .NET quandary is analogous to a comparison of commodity suppliers," commented Annrai O'Toole, CEO at Cape Clear Software Inc. "Barring issues of trust, the fundamental need of customers is that these services work as advertised. It is time for software vendors to realize that diversity is in the nature of computer technology and that the key requirement is interoperability. Our focus on .NET interoperability, with existing support for J2EE and CORBA, provides a means for every company to use the best tools and applications for their business, and to be comfortable in knowing that there will be seamless interoperability through independent Web Services platforms such as CapeConnect."
CapeConnect Features
CapeConnect is a complete Web Services platform that allows developers to automatically expose existing Java, EJB, .NET, and CORBA components as Web Services without writing code. CapeConnect is capable of connecting a wide range of technologies (including Java, J2EE, CORBA, C , COM, C#, Visual Basic, and Perl) using Web Services standards such as SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI. CapeConnect 3.5 introduces a range of new functionality including:
Complete .NET Support
CapeConnect 3.5 has complete support for .NET, ensuring that Web Services created on different environments such as Java, J2EE, and CORBA can seamlessly interoperate with the latest release of .NET. This release has been successfully tested against the release candidates of Microsoft's .NET Framework Software Development Kit (SDK) and Microsoft Visual Studio.NET.
Improved Database Support
CapeConnect 3.5 enables SQL databases to be exposed as Web Services, allowing the rapid prototyping of Web Services to access enterprise data. This SQL Web Service approach can be used with any database supporting JDBC.
UDDI Enhancements
Cape Clear has upgraded the UDDI functionality within CapeConnect 3.5. This includes support for UDDI registries on Oracle databases, improved search facilities, and a major upgrade of CapeConnect's UDDI graphical interface.
Diverse Web Services Interoperability
Through the SOAPBuilders forum, CapeConnect 3.5 has been successfully tested for interoperability with many commercial Web Services products.
Support for Complex Legacy Applications
This latest release of CapeConnect generates WSDL and XML Schema that accurately reflects the complex and object-oriented nature of existing back-end systems through support for polymorphism. Developers also have more control over the WSDL generation and SOAP serialization of their applications through the use of JavaBean design patterns, which are supported by CapeConnect.
Native J2EE Deployment
CapeConnect 3.5 can be deployed either as a standalone platform or as a native J2EE application within leading J2EE application servers, such as WebLogic and WebSphere.
Increased Developer Flexibility
The large number of developers already using CapeConnect has driven a wide range of demands for increased flexibility in extending and customizing the CapeConnect Web Services platform. As a result of developers looking for more control of the Web Services platform, CapeConnect 3.5 exposes a range of new APIs, including its SOAP parser, authentication module, serialization, transports, SOAP headers, HTTP Basic Authentication Support, and XML/XSLT Interceptor support.
Pricing and availability
The CapeConnect 3.5 Beta is available from Cape Clear Software immediately and can be downloaded from http://www.capeclear.com . The full commercial release will be available on 25 February 2002. CapeConnect 3.5 costs $10,000 per server.
