Canon PC940 Debuts as Newest Small Office/Home Office Copier
(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 16, 2001 ) Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon, Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), on August 15 introduced a new addition to its PC900 Series of personal desktop copiers, the PC940. A compact, full-featured, virtually maintenance-free machine, the PC940 is designed for use in small businesses and home offices that require productivity enhancements at a low cost. The new PC940 is built upon proven technology that has earned Canon a spot as the leading manufacturer of personal copiers for the small office/home office (SOHO) market. Among the features making this copier fast and productive include its copy speed (13 letter-size copies-per-minute (cpm) and 11 legal-size cpm), zoom enlargement and reduction, a front-loading paper cassette and the convenience of no warm-up time. And like all Canon Personal Copiers, the PC940 features Canon's exclusive Single Cartridge System, which contains virtually all the copier parts that can run or wear out, including the drum, development unit and toner, in one easily replaceable cartridge. The PC940 can make up to 100 copies at a time with its 250-sheet front-loading paper cassette that accepts statement, letter and legal-size paper. A Photo Mode function allows users to reproduce documents or photos with half-tones to achieve a more true-to-the-original copy. The PC940 also incorporates another Canon exclusive, the company's patented RAPID Fusing System, which provides instant warm-up and eliminates waiting time. Auto shut-off, a built-in energy saving feature, automatically shuts off the copier after approximately five-and-a-half minutes of non-use. These energy-saving attributes enable the PC940 to be ENERGY STAR compliant. "With the number of small offices growing each year, Canon's goal is to provide new personal copiers that meet the changing needs of today's professionals, yet remain easy-to-use and affordable," said James J. Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Retailer/Distributor Sales Division for Canon U.S.A.'s Imaging Systems Group. "The PC940 offers the features of a larger machine at a competitive price so we expect it will be an attractive choice to people in the market for a personal copier." To further improve office productivity, the PC940 includes preset reduction capabilities of 70%, 78% and 86% and the present enlargement of 141%, as well as a zoom function that ranges from 70% to 141% in 1% increments. The copier also includes automatic and manual exposure control and toner saver mode. The PC940 has a recommended monthly volume of 2,000 copies. The copier uses the Canon E40 black cartridge, and a starter cartridge is shipped with each copier. Canon provides a three-year limited warranty on the PC940 with first year on-site service. The PC940 is available immediately at retailers across the United States at an estimated street price of $499. The PC940 meets the ENERGY STAR guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Developed in 1993, the ENERGY STAR program promotes the manufacture of energy-efficient office equipment. Its designation applies to products that contribute to the reduction of pollution and emissions from power generated at electric utilities. Canon, a long-time ENERGY STAR partner and one of the leading producers of energy-efficient equipment, assists the EPA in developing guidelines to reduce global warming and is a strong advocate of consumer education through its product labeling and environmental programs. Canon U.S.A., Inc., is an industry leader in professional and consumer imaging solutions and, through its parent company, Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), is a top patent-holder of imaging technologies. The company's comprehensive product line includes networked multifunction devices; digital and analog copiers (color and black and white); printers; scanners, image filing systems, and facsimile machines; camcorders, cameras and lenses; and semiconductor, broadcast and medical equipment. Canon employs 12,000 people at more than 30 facilities throughout North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
