Canon Expands Its Line of Digital Microfilm Scanners
New MS-300 Microfilm Scanner Simplifies Image Retrieval For More Versatile Use
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 11, 2003 ) Canon U.S.A., Inc., the leader in digital imaging solutions, announces a new desktop digital microfilm scanner combining the best of Canon's renowned micrographics technology with simple PC connectivity to put microfilm images on line. The new Canon MS-300 builds on Canon's quality and reliability and adds hardware and software enhancements for the digital conversion of film images into formats suitable for transmission via the Internet, E-mail or fax. These enhancements also enable the scanner to emulate a Reader-Printer. The MS-300 Microfilm Scanner, which is available for immediately delivery, makes its first appearance today before Canon's authorized full-line Image Filing Systems dealers at their national sales meeting in Laguna Beach, California.
The new MS-300 Microfilm Scanner is the latest addition to Canon's flagship line of digital Microfilm Scanners that expand the document management capabilities of microfilm by providing direct connections with a wide range of systems. Offering four scanning modes, simple controls, and standard SCSI PC connectivity, the MS-300 is compatible with all microfilm/fiche formats, and like its MS-400, MS-500 and MS-800 Microfilm Scanner counterparts, the device includes a long list of features designed to boost productivity and simplify access.
"Microfilm continues to be a preferred storage medium for a broad range of organizations because of its long-life span, low cost and reliability, but our customers also want the convenience of digital imaging," said Walter Irving, director of Canon U.S.A.'s Image Filing Systems Division. "The MS-300 Microfilm Scanner includes the best of Canon's proven technology with new innovations designed to meet changing market needs. This product represents another example of Canon's leadership in this market and our ongoing commitment to customers needing high-quality image archival technology."
Employing scanning speeds as fast as 5.5 seconds for a standard letter-size frame, the Canon MS-300 Microfilm Scanner delivers superior image quality with 600 dpi optical resolution through Canon's patented BASIS sensor technology. Users can select output resolution, which ranges from 200 dpi through 600 dpi. The MS-300 supports multiple scanning modes, including black and white and grayscale and scans images that are up to 8 ½" x 14" in size.
The MS-300 comes with Canon's powerful CapturePerfect software that allows for convenient Scan-to-Email capability, PDF file saving, text enhancements and image quality adjustments. A user-friendly Scan Panel provides easy access to a wide range of automatic features such as border removal, trimming, centering, full framing, automatic page size detection and deskew. For further convenience, the MS-300 enables the user to set these preferences for later recall.
The MS-300 is also compatible with Canon's popular image.SCAN software, which offers users even greater control, with step-by-step video tutorials and an easy-to-use touch-screen interface.
Canon's MS-300 Microfilm Scanner can automatically convert microfilm to other media, synchronizing film scanning with image processing and automatic indexing. The MS-300 also supports several output file formats, allowing images to be saved as TIFF, BMP, PDF or JPEG files. Several interchangeable film carriers provide easy handling of 16/35 mm roll film; ANSI "M" type cartridges; fiche; jackets, and aperture cards.
ISIS and TWAIN drivers come bundled with the MS-300 to ensure flexible connectivity and compatibility with a wide range of applications. All MS-300 drivers are compatible with Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP and NT operating systems.
The Canon MS-300 Microfilm Scanner is available immediately through authorized Canon Image Filing Systems full-line dealers at a suggested retail price of $3,795.
