Auctioneer Goes Digital with Internet Only instead of Live Auctions
Hemar Insurance to use “Internet Auction On Steroids” to liquidate SiouxFalls, SD technical assets and executive offices.
Similar to an old fashion auction, ads were sent out, and a catalog was prepared for the Monday onsite inspection. But instead of a live auction, the bidding is online only.
The photo catalog is fully searchable and accepts multiple types of bids. Auctioneer Chris Rasmus explains “It’s like ebay on steroids; we have 200 items selling in one special event.”
The auction begins closing online at 12 PM this Tuesday August 1st, ten items close every minute.
“It’s much more exciting than a live auction. You are bidding on 10 items closing simultaneously. The smart buyers utilize our MAXbid feature and lets the computer do all the work for them.”
Unlike ebay, the auction attracts a more regional audience. Rasmus does not ship to buyers. Assets are available for a two day pickup and movers or shippers deal directly with the buyer.
Rasmus says this method of sale is the logical next step for traditional auctioneers. “Buyers are too busy to attend live auctions. These sales allow bidders to participate from the comfort of their home or office.” The process has been good for business too. Last year Rasmus conducted 220
internet only auctions nationwide. Next year he is shooting for 400.
