Auction Marketing Fuels Real Estate Sales

Nearly 200 registered bidders and a throng of interested onlookers

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 08, 2006 ) Pleasant Valley, NY -- The power of auction marketing was confirmed once again as the gavel recently fell on two seized properties in New York. Drawing nearly 200 registered bidders and a throng of interested onlookers, a home in Hicksville, Long Island, and two vacant parcels on Staten Island each took less than five minutes to bring very strong prices.

Amityville, N.Y., auctioneer John Lynch began selling the Hicksville property at noon on Thursday, March 23. After fielding rapid-fire bids from more than 130 bidders within a three-minute span, the property went to the highest bidder for $395,000.

The following day, Lynch auctioned two seized parcels of vacant land in the exclusive Todt Hill section of Staten Island, N.Y. Among the dozens of curiosity-seekers were 50 registered bidders eager to compete for the choice offerings. The first parcel, a .31 acre lot, opened at $250,000 and immediately skyrocketed to $800,000. The second, an adjoining 1.15 acre lot with a steep declining slope, opened at $150,000 and quickly blew that figure out of the water, closing at $1.5 million just 4 minutes later.

All of the parcels were auctioned on behalf of the U.S Treasury, which seized the properties as a result of criminal investigations. Lynch, an associate auctioneer at Absolute Auctions & Realty, Inc. of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. conducted the auctions on behalf of CWS Marketing and the Treasury Department.

“On Thursday, we registered bidders non-stop for nearly two hours,” recalls Lynch. “We knew the bidding would be fierce, and we were not disappointed. The Staten Island sales the next day had the same electric atmosphere. There’s a contagious ‘buzz’ that’s generated when buyers compete in person, and that’s what makes selling real estate by auction so successful, and so rewarding.”
