(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 05, 2000 ) NEW YORK CITY – Richard Brooks the President of the Association of Former Pan Am Employees, Inc. (AFPAE Inc.) Who’s group has been locked in a bitter battle with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) for over nine years to regain pension benefits, that Mr. Brooks says the PBGC has cheated them out of. Stated today that all of the TWA employees who are covered by the TWA pension plans, and this includes employees who are both retired now, or will retire in the future, are in for a royal shafting, as the 47,000 employees of the former Pan American World Airway’s got from the PBGC.

The employees of TWA must start to take action right now to protect themselves from this Government Agency that was created by Congress to protect the American Workers Pensions. The table has turned, stated Mr. Brooks, it is now the American Workers and the TWA employees who need protection against this Government Agency that thinks and acts like an insurance company, instead of the Trustee of a pension plan.

Brooks said that he had placed phone calls to the president of the International Association of Machinists, and the President of their Airline Division today, and hopes to meet with them and the Presidents of all of the TWA local unions. He will also try and contact the Pilots Union on Monday morning. Brooks stated that we (the former Pan Am employees) would not, and could not, stand by and watch David Strauss, and the rest of his cronies, screw our fellow employees at TWA.

Brooks stated that the employees of TWA should read, and post this press release through out their system, and take heed. This sly cunning fox (David Strauss) has come to you and told you not to worry about your pensions, because the PBGC is here to protect you. That is just like the fox telling the farmer that he has nothing to worry about concerning his chickens, while he is guarding the coop.

Click on Committee Events, then pick out and click on the 9/21/00 hearings on the PBGC. Then read or watch the hearings, and pay special attention to the testimony given by Mr. Robert Hast, Ms. Bonnie McHenry, and David Strauss himself.
