Aspects of Geppi's Entertainment Museum to be featured exhibit at Atlantique City, Oct. 14-15
Display includes comic character rarities of past 230 years
(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 25, 2006 ) ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – At the Oct. 14-15 Atlantique City antiques fair, visitors will be able to walk through a historical road map celebrating the use of comic characters in education and entertainment through a special exhibit from Geppi’s Entertainment Museum at Camden Yards. GEM, as the 17,000-square-foot Baltimore pop-culture museum is known, will hold its grand opening on Sept. 8. The new multimillion-dollar attraction was founded by Steve Geppi, owner of the Diamond Comic Distributors family of companies and a minority owner of the Baltimore Orioles.
The traveling exhibit, which will make its debut at the Atlantique City show, offers a representation from each of the eras covered in the museum, spanning the nation’s 230-year history and sampling from the 340 different categories of character toys that have been produced in that time. Three full display cases will offer visitors an idea of the treasures in the museum’s historic Baltimore facility, which is located in the old Camden Station, adjacent to Oriole Park and only a few minutes’ walk from the famous Inner Harbor. The exhibit thoughtfully examines the use of comic characters starting in 1776 and running through the present.
“We’re extremely pleased to work with our friends at the Atlantique City show so that the huge volume of collectors, dealers and general enthusiasts at their show will get to sample some of the excitement Geppi’s Entertainment Museum has to offer,” said John K. Snyder Jr., president of Diamond International Galleries. “With a great show like Atlantique City and a superb destination like our new museum facility, we’re excited to work together in increasing the awareness of collecting and what it means to collect. This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to share a snapshot of Steve Geppi's vision with our fellow collectors and the public at large."
“Attracting top-quality special exhibits, such as that of Geppi’s Entertainment Museum, offers our attendees a glimpse into the educational side of collecting,” said Eric Bradley, Atlantique City’s producer. “I am honored to offer our attendees and dealers a chance to experience an exhibit from what is sure to become known as one of the most influential collections and museums in the history of the hobby.”
Hosted by Antique Trader magazine, Atlantique City features antiques and collectibles from around the world, free appraisals and free furniture delivery within 200 miles of the show. From pottery to porcelain, vintage posters to Venetian glass, Americana to formal furniture, shoppers can buy from hundreds of reputable dealers.
The Fall 2006 edition of the show will be held Oct. 14 and 15 at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, N.J. Regular show hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A 20th anniversary early-entry VIP ticket package, which allows early shopping on Friday, admission on Saturday and Sunday, a goodie bag and an invitation to a festive cocktail party, is available for $99. Two-day advance tickets for Saturday and Sunday are $24. Saturday-only admission is $15 in advance, and Sunday-only admission is $10 in advance.
