Arrive Alive
New Survey Finds Growing Concerns Over The Quality Of Equipment And Medicines Available for Medical Emergencies
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 11, 2002 ) SUGGESTED ANCHOR LEAD: They're life savers, our life-line from an accident to the hospital. But what if they couldn't do their job right? Roberta Facinelli explains how EMS workers and emergency department physicians are struggling to save our lives. (:60)
SCRIPT: Some say they're the un-sung heroes, EMS workers and emergency room doctors. Their job is to save lives. But a new "Arrive Alive" survey conducted by Harris Interactive® shows growing concerns over whether emergency workers have access to the necessary equipment and medicines they need to deliver the best possible care. Dr. Richard Aghababian, professor and chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
CUT: (Aghababian) The barriers to emergency personnel having access to the most up to date treatment, training and equipment really are budgetary.
SCRIPT: The "Arrive Alive" survey also found that 90% of Americans expect the best quality of care regardless of what it costs. Yet, 57% of emergency providers believe high costs and budget constraints are hindering their ability to use new medical therapies. At the same time, 88 percent of those surveyed said they would vote for an elected official if they promised to improve the quality of emergency medical care in their community. I'm Roberta Facinelli.
SUGGESTED ANCHOR TAG: The "Arrive Alive" survey was conducted by Harris Interactive® and was sponsored by a grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
