America's 'Biggest' Muralist Brings His Art to the Small Screen
Known For His Whaling Wall Murals, Marine Life Artist Wyland Showcases New Line Of Gifts Live On QVC
(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 26, 2002 ) His art is as big as it gets -- on the sides of skyscrapers...sports arenas...zoos...aquariums...all in the spirit of raising environmental awareness around the world. Now, environmental artist Wyland comes to the small screen on Thursday, March 28 (2-4 EST) live on QVC. The broadcast will take place live from the artist's gallery at San Francisco's popular Pier 39, which is also home to one of his 88 life-size Whaling Wall murals, the 58-foot-high "Spyhopping Gray Whale."
Wyland's goal is to raise the profile of endangered marine mammals by painting 100 monumental murals around the world. His work is seen by an estimated one billion people each year. Thus far, the murals have ranged from a few hundred square feet to more than three acres in total area.
"Wyland appeals to our viewers not only for the unique beauty of his art, but also for his mission of promoting and protecting marine life," said George Whitney, QVC's vice president merchandising, home fashions.
Though Wyland is primarily known for his extraordinary marine life paintings, he has also developed a selection of marine life gifts based on his art. Among the items to be shown on QVC is a line of gold and sterling silver jewelry, an autographed copy of the Time-Life book, The Undersea World of Wyland, and a series of nature photography, sculptures, and signed marine life art. Wyland will also paint live during the broadcast.
The broadcast from Wyland's San Francisco Gallery is one of the more than 50 live broadcasts per year that QVC presents from remote locations, such as artist studios, Hollywood events and film festivals.
QVC, Inc., a $3.9 billion company, is an e-commerce leader, marketing a wide variety of brand name products in such categories as home furnishing, licensed products, fashion, beauty, electronics and fine jewelry.
