American Emu Association Introduces Officers for 2006/2007

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 28, 2006 ) San Angelo, Texas -- Emu growers from across the United States and several from around the world, gathered at the Madison West-Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, Middleton, WI for the 2006 American Emu Association (AEA) National Convention, July 14-16. Founded in 1989, the AEA is a nonprofit organization of breeders, producers and marketers of emu meat, oil and other emu co-products. The AEA Board of Directors met for several days before the start of the convention to discuss business, set goals and make plans for the upcoming year.

An all-volunteer board elected by members runs the American Emu Association.
Regional representatives for 2006/2007 are: Richard Bracht of Ohio for Region 1, Charles Ramey of Tennessee for Region 2, Marcia Huddleston of Wisconsin for Region 3, Deitra McCleery of Texas for Region 4 and Clover Quinn of Montana for Region 5/6. At Large board members include Cyril Klein of Iowa, Myra Charleston of Tennessee and Martha Hendricks of North Carolina. The officers for 2006/2007 are: president – Charles Ramey, vice-president – Martha Hendricks, secretary – Marcia Huddleston, treasurer - De McCleery, and parliamentarian – Richard Bracht.

"The opportunity to lead the Association at a time when we have such a promising outlook for the emu industry is exciting," said Ramey. "Demand for emu co-products exceeds production and the industry is moving quickly towards a processor market.” Ramey went on to say that as the processor market continues developing, prices for meat, fat and other co-products are showing strength.

"The scope of the Association focuses our efforts directly upon research and public education of emu related information,” noted Ramey. "This mandate ensures we will continue to dedicate our efforts to support research on emu meat, emu oil, leather and other emu co-products. Our additional public education role makes involvement with the Association rewarding for all of us who have the opportunity to participate."

The American Emu Association is a non-profit trade association representing the emu industry. The emu industry is an alternative agricultural industry, dominated by the small farmer, who is devoted to humane and environmentally positive practices that will produce beneficial products for society.
